SPMA only sent a small team of 4 students to the Australian BJJ Championships in Melbourne on 15th to 17th August. Oliver Silvestro won both his matches and is the Australian BJJ champion in his kids division. Tahyrin Roberts won one match and lost one and won a bronze medal in his kids division. Adults Tony Pycroft and Welsey Matthews lost their matches.
SPMA’s team of 17 students won an amazing 7 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze medals at the NSW BJJ Winter Cup on 26th July in Sydney. Gold medallists include Andrew Husman, Steve Rudic, Jean Mondaca, Zander Mucenski, Anwar Kumar, Aadam Kumar and Tahyrn Roberts. The team consisted of 8 adults and 9 kids who competed in both gi and no gi.
SPMA won an impressive 14 gold, 10 silver and 17 bronze medals at the Events BJJ Sydney Cup held at Ryde Aquatic Centre on Sunday 13th July. Stand outs include Frances Bavaro who won 4 gold medals and Nico Vu who won 2 gold medals. Frances won her weight and open divisions in gi and nogi and Nico won his weight division in gi and nogi. SPMA put in a team in the NSW BJJ State Championships held in Sydney on 28th-29th June. SPMA have 3 state BJJ champions. SPMA won 3 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals. Over 160 students graded in BJJ, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Kids BJJ at both of my Sydney gyms in Concord and Moorebank. The gradings were from 23rd June to 26th June. About 100 people came throughout the day and helped us celebrate the Grand Reopening of our Moorebank MMA, BJJ and Thai Kickboxing gym. The rain held out and everyone enjoyed the free BBQ, took a tour of our new gym and the kids enjoyed the free jumping castle. We had special guests Craig Kelly, MP who is the federal member for Hughes and the Mayor of Liverpool City Council Ned Mannoun who toured the gym, gave a speech to everyone there and even got down and dirty and took a few action shots. One week of gradings just finished at SPMA with 200 students grading in BJJ and Thai Kickboxing across both of my Sydney gyms. Gradings started in Moorebank on Monday 31st March with Kids BJJ and Adults BJJ and the following night was Adults Thai Kickboxing. On Wednesday 2nd April at Concord was Kids BJJ (11-14yo) and Adults BJJ and on Thursday 3rd April was Kids BJJ (6-10yo) and Adults Thai Kickboxing. You can se photos below of all the classes.
We moved our Liverpool MMA, BJJ and Muay Thai Kickboxing gym to Moorebank. We opened Monday 10th March at our new location. It is a much bigger and better place than our previous one. It has a much better training feel to it. All of the students are very happy with the move and new facilities. On top of that it is easy to get to and there is unlimited free parking. We will be having a Grand Reopening Day on Sunday 13th April.
