MMA results the past 4 months
Team SPMA went 4 wins 4 losses in MMA matches held around Sydney, Wollongong, Blue Mountains, Canberra and Melbourne. Andrew Mills won 2 matches in September and November, Jeshua McPhail won in September and Bryce Spiteri won in November in the Blue Mountains. Steve Micallef and Gerhard Voigt both lost their title matches in the Brace MMA show on 22nd November in Canberra. And Byron Cowell lost both his matches in September in Wollongong and December in Melbourne.

I didn’t know I had Whooping Cough till I had a blood test the Monday after my fight at UFC Fight Night 55. Here is an interview I did with MMA Kanvas about it.

I won by RNC in the first round!
I won my fight at UFC Fight Night 55 in Sydney on 8th November defeating Guto Inocente by Rear Naked Choke in the first round. It was great to get the win and do it in front of my home crowd.
The match all went to plan. I did my favourite strikes, favourite takedown, favourite half guard pass to mount, my favourite ground and pound from mount and finished with my favourite choke. Big thanks to my coaches and cornermen Steve Rudic, Shaun Sullivan and Denis Roberts. And a big thank you to Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn for making me feel welcome and coaching me when I went to their gym in Albuquerque in preparation for this fight.
About 10,000 fans filled the Allphones arena and they saw 5 out of 8 Aussies finish with the win. All 11 fights on the card
The day before was a close call as I had to strip down naked for the weigh in and weighed in at the maximum 206 pounds (93.6kg) but I made it and was able to rehydrate well.

My next fight at UFC Fight Night 55
I am fighting in Sydney on UFC Fight Night 55 on 8th November against Guto Inocente from Brazil. I am excited to be fighting in the octagon again and also in my home city. The press conference was on Thursday 11th September to announce the show and ticket sales. UFC Australia, New Zeakland and Canada Director Tom Wright opened the press conference. The main event will be Michael Bisping v Luke Rockhold. Myself and a few other fighters then participated in open workouts.

Check out an article MMA Kanvas did featuring me doing some MMA submissions. It was for UFC Fight Night 50 featuring Jacare and Mousassi. Jacare is a top BJJ black belt and ended up winning the match by guillotine choke. You can see me demonstatting a number of submissions in short videos. What’s it like in the mind of a fighter in the day and week before their big fight? I wrote an article for MMA Kanvas about what an MMA fighter goes through. Every fighter is different but this is what I go through. I describe the week and day before my win over Cyrille Diabate in England in November 2011. I talk about everything from nutrition, weight cut, training, recovery, mental preparation and more.
Brace for War double header
SPMA had 5 students fight on back to back Brace MMA shows held in Sydney on 8th and 9th of August. SPMA went 3 wins and 2 losses. Steve Micallef, Gerhard Voigt and Andrew Mills won their matches and Aydin Mrouki and Byron Cowell lost their matches. Steve and Gerhard now fight for the title in their weight divisions in November. Aydin broke his arm and we wish him a speedy recovery.
