I attended the opening of former Dragons star Matt Cooper’s opening of his new MMA gym in Wollongong on 2nd August. Matt Cooper played rugby league for 14 seasons with the St. George Dragons (who happen to be my favourite team!). Matt now wants to train and teach and also fight in MMA. It’s great to have him on the MMA team!
It’s grading time and all the students at my affiliate BJJ and MMA gyms in Sydney, Mackay and Rockhamptom smashed it. The Griffith grading will be in August. The Sydney BJJ gyms are Macquarie University, Elite Martial Arts and Martial Arts research Academy. In Mackay is Mackay MMA and in Rockhampton is Rhino MMA. SPMA students Gokhan Oskose won by decision and Kelly Lawson lost by decision at the MMA Wimp to Warrior finale held in Sydney on 21st June. Both students had a great fight camp and performed on the day. My stwo students came from different backgrounds. Gokhan has been my student for 4 years and Kelly only 3 months. They have both now graduated to the status of Warrior!

I had to pull out of my fight on 28th June at UFC New Zealand. I tore my PCL of my knee and calf muscle during training. Luckily I have avoided surgery and it will be 3 months rehab for a full recovery. I will be back to training and back in the octagon soon!

About 100 people came throughout the day and helped us celebrate the Grand Reopening of our Moorebank MMA, BJJ and Thai Kickboxing gym. The rain held out and everyone enjoyed the free BBQ, took a tour of our new gym and the kids enjoyed the free jumping castle. We had special guests Craig Kelly, MP who is the federal member for Hughes and the Mayor of Liverpool City Council Ned Mannoun who toured the gym, gave a speech to everyone there and even got down and dirty and took a few action shots.
